They called him Doctor Schnabel, but no one knew if he was a healer or an executioner.
Long before the wars began, a plague swept across the lands. Villages vanished overnight. Fields stood empty. Entire tribes disappeared without a single battle. In the darkness, survivors spoke of a shadow moving between the dead a tall figure wearing a black coat and a bird-like mask. Wherever he walked, silence followed.
Doctor Schnabel never raised his voice. He never threatened. He simply appeared at the gates of those who believed themselves safe.
The first warning was always the same: scouts failed to return.
The second: watchtowers burned in the night.
The third: screams carried by the wind.
By dawn, only ruins remained.
Legends say he collects the names of fallen enemies inside his mask, whispering them before every attack. Some swear they have seen him standing motionless outside their villages moments before the assault, watching… waiting.
No one knows how old he is. No one knows where he came from. What is known is this; When Doctor Schnabel marks a village, its fate is already sealed.Walls crumble. Armies vanish. Allies arrive too late.
War veterans never speak his name after sunset.
Because they know the truth.
Doctor Schnabel never attacks in anger.
He attacks with certainty.
Every march he sends is a sentence already passed. Every village he marks becomes another forgotten ruin swallowed by ash and silence. Reinforcements only add more names to his endless ledger of the dead.
Those who survive swear they heard a calm voice before the gates fell:
“Your village is healthy no longer.”
If you see my banner on the horizon, do not count your troops.
Count the hours.
For when Doctor Schnabel arrives…
The plague has already won. |
